Deputy PM calls for stronger trade, connectivity and digital growth at APEC dialogue

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has laid stress on open trade, resilient supply chains, stronger regional connectivity, and responsible digital transformation to drive sustainable growth across the Asia-Pacific.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son on October 31 attended the dialogue between APEC leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) within the framework of the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The dialogue is an annual event designed to promote public–private cooperation, mobilize business participation and contributions to the APEC cooperation process, and support the development of a prosperous and sustainable Asia-Pacific region.

In its report to the leaders, ABAC expressed concern over prolonged trade disruptions, rising protectionist tendencies, and an uncertain business environment, while offering recommendations to augment regional cooperation in response to these challenges.

Based on ABAC’s proposals, the dialogue discussed measures to ensure open markets, reinforce the global trade system, and promote investment; develop robust and stable logistics infrastructure; facilitate seamless digital trade and ensure cybersecurity; pursue fair and effective energy transition; maintain a sustainable APEC food system; build data-driven smart healthcare systems; and support economies in adapting to demographic changes.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son acknowledged and commended the recommendations of the APEC business community, emphasizing that APEC economies and the private sector need to coordinate to strengthen open trade, sustainable supply chains, and the responsible adoption of digitalization and artificial intelligence.

He stressed that amid a challenging global economic landscape, APEC must maintain traditional growth drivers such as trade and investment while fostering new drivers like science, technology, and digital transformation. Accordingly, APEC economies should focus on three priorities: first, promoting trade and investment both among APEC economies and between APEC and external partners; second, enhancing regional connectivity across infrastructure, institutions, and people-to-people exchanges; and third, utilizing digital transformation to create new growth momentum. These priorities provide the foundation for APEC to reinforce supply chains, expand cooperation, and ensure sustainable growth in the region.

In discussions with ABAC representatives on digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son also called on the regional business community, a key factor in developing and integrating AI into socio-economic life, to cooperate with governments in implementing AI in a responsible, open, and inclusive manner.
