Vietnam, Japan leaders hold phone call to advance strategic partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), held phone talks on April 13 to enhance cooperation in economy, security, energy and regional stability under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the call, Prime Minister Takaichi extended her congratulations to To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and as President of Vietnam. She reaffirmed Japan’s strong desire to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam across all fields.
General Secretary and President To Lam, in turn, congratulated the Liberal Democratic Party on its victory in the House of Representatives election earlier this year, as well as Takaichi’s re-election as Prime Minister. He expressed confidence that Japan would continue to prosper and make active contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Both leaders welcomed the robust and comprehensive development of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, agreeing to enhance high-level exchanges and promote substantive cooperation in key areas, including defence and security, economy, science and technology, digital transformation, green transition, energy security, labour, health care and local-to-local cooperation.
Amid rapidly evolving global developments that are affecting energy security and disrupting supply chains, the top leader of Vietnam emphasised the importance of closer coordination with Japan to address regional and global challenges, particularly in ensuring energy security. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with Japan on regional and international issues in the time ahead.
Prime Minister Takaichi, for her part, spoke highly of Vietnam’s growing role and position in the region, describing the country as a key partner in advancing Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision. She also underscored Japan’s respect for Vietnam’s independent and self-reliant foreign policy, while expressing support for the country’s development goals in the new era.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese leader extended an invitation to the Emperor and Empress of Japan, as well as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
