Vietnam hails PCA’s assistance to countries in settling international disputes
VOV.VN - Visiting the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in the Hague on December 11 evening (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the court’s role in assisting countries to peacefully settle international disputes through arbitration and international conciliation procedures.
Meeting with PCA Secretary General Marcin Czepelak, Chinh recalled the inauguration of the court’s representative office in Hanoi in late November 2022, noting the move is a practical step toward Vietnam’s commitment to promoting multilateralism, and upholding the United Nations Charter and principles of international law, including the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
Vietnam is ready to settle international disputes with foreign partners at international mediation, conciliation and arbitration agencies in accordance with international law, ensuring the harmony of interests of the parties, said the PM.
He suggested that the PCA, through its Hanoi office, will provide Vietnam with support and consultation on its experience in dealing with territorial, economic and trade issues. He at the same time asked the PCA to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to work at the court.
The PCA Secretary-General affirmed that the Hanoi office would closely coordinate with relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to implement training and capacity building activities.
He said that the PCA is recruiting Vietnamese experts for the operation of its office in Vietnam.
Marcin Czepelak visited Vietnam in late November 2022 to inaugurate the PCA’s representative office in Hanoi.
He said the inauguration of the Hanoi office is an important step in Vietnam’s international integration, demonstrating its role and position as an active and responsible member of the international community that actively promotes the compliance with international law and peaceful settlement of disputes.
