Vietnam expects ‘most suitable solution to Myanmar crisis’, Foreign Minister
VOV.VN - Vietnam is closely monitoring the latest development in Myanmar and is working closely with other ASEAN member states to find the most suitable solution to the crisis in the nation.
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son made the statement while meeting with Christine Schraner Burgener the United Nations Special Envoy on Myanmar on April 24.
Son underlined the importance of refraining from and ending violence, providing humanitarian assistance, and holding dialogue in Myanmar while promoting ASEAN’s central role in this process.
As the sole ASEAN member currently assuming the role of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Vietnam has been making great efforts for the UN to have comprehensive and balanced exchanges on Myanmar, the minister told the UN envoy.
He expressed his wish that the international community, the United Nations and Burgener personally would support efforts by ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular in this regard.
Burgener shared her view about the situation in Myanmar and expected that ASEAN would take positive steps, contributing to settling disagreements and bringing peace for Myanmar.
