Vietnam Embassy closely monitors Ukraine crisis: Ambassador

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine after Russia launched a military campaign in eastern Ukraine, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Ukraine Nguyen Hong Thach.

The Vietnamese Embassy has contacted representatives of the Vietnamese community in Ukraine who said they were still calm and no one plans to evacuate, Ambassador Thach told VTC News in a short phone call on February 24.

The diplomat earlier said that there were no Vietnamese in the conflict zone. Those who lived there had previously moved to Russia or to major Ukrainian cities such as Odessa, Kyiv or Kharkiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 morning said Russia has decided to launch a special military operation in Ukraine in response to threats from Ukraine.

Ukraine immediately closed its airspace to all civilian aircraft. The actual closure of the airspace took effect at 1:56 a.m. on February 24 (local time) and is expected to last until 11:59 p.m. on the same day.

According to Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang, the Vietnamese Embassy has established an around-the-clock hotline to address all queries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the Embassy in Ukraine to work closely with relevant Ukrainian agencies on Vietnamese citizen protection, Hang said on February 23.
