Vietnam – DPR Korea talks strengthen traditional friendship, cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, special envoy of General Secretary and State President To Lam, held meetings and talks with senior leaders of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Pyongyang on May 13 to promote bilateral friendship and cooperation.
In Pyongyang, Minister Trung met with Kim Song-nam, member of the Political Bureau of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the WPK Central Committee.
He also held talks with Choe Son-hui to discuss bilateral relations between Vietnam and the DPRK.
Korean leaders expressed their pleasure at the decision by General Secretary and State President To Lam to send a special envoy to visit the country, describing it as a strong demonstration of Vietnam’s commitment to the traditional friendship between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
They also congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, while highly appreciating Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and growing international standing. They expressed confidence that Vietnam would continue to achieve new milestones under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by General Secretary and State President To Lam.
During meetings and talks, Trung congratulated the DPRK on the successful holding of the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and briefed his hosts on key outcomes of Vietnam’s 14th Party Congress.
He emphasised Vietnam’s development orientation toward rapid and sustainable growth in the new period, while consistently maintaining the principle of national independence linked with socialism and placing people at the centre of development.
The Minister reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently values and seeks to further strengthen its traditional friendship with the DPR Korea, aiming to promote more substantive and effective cooperation in areas aligned with the interests of both countries.
In a spirit of friendship and openness, both sides agreed to continue enhancing high-level and multi-level delegation exchanges, strengthening political trust, and expanding practical cooperation across various fields.
They also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to continue coordination at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), contributing to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world at large.
