Vietnam desires to foster cooperative ties with Brazil

VOV.VN - Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to boost its cooperative tis with Brazil, one of Vietnam’s leading important partners in Latin America, said acting State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan,

Receiving outgoing Brazilian ambassador to Vietnam Fernando Apparicio da Silva, Xuan noted the two countries have regularly maintained visit exchanges and political consultations at the ministerial level, helping to boost bilateral cooperation in the fields of mutual interests and strengths, while closely supporting each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.

Particularly she said, the two sides have maintained bilateral trade exchanges, with Brazil emerging as Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Latin America. Two-way trade turnover last year reached a record high of US$6.78 billion, an increase of 6.6% compared to 2021.

In addition, bilateral cooperation in other fields such as agriculture, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges has also yielded important results.

The Acting President suggested that the two countries continue to promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations, to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Vietnamese leaders look forward to welcoming Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula in Hanoi in the near future, Xuan said.

She expressed hope that the two sides would pay more attention to creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese goods to enter the Brazilian market, and Brazilian goods to make inroads into the Vietnamese market.

She also proposed the Brazilian Government support the start of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR).

Ambassador Fernando Apparicio da Silva for his part congratulated Vietnam on its impressive achievements in socio-economic development and international integration.

He thanked the relevant Vietnamese agencies for supporting him in accomplishing his mission in the country, and expected the Brazil- Vietnam cooperation would be further strengthened, especially in trade, economy and other fields of their common strength.
