Vietnam considers Russia one of top priority partners in foreign policy
VOV.VN - Vietnam attaches importance to relations with Russia, considering it one of the top priority partners in foreign policy, Party General Secretary To Lam told Russian Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko during a reception in Hanoi on April 2.

To Lam expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent times, especially when the two countries are celebrating major anniversaries in 2025, including 75 years of bilateral diplomacy.
The two countries have strengthened political trust through exchanges, high-level contacts, and the effective implementation of cooperation mechanisms. They have also maintained economic cooperation growth and promoted cooperation in defence and security, energy, education and training, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
Vietnam aims to maintain and further develop the traditional friendship with Russia, serving the interests of both countries while contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in both regions and globally, he told the Russian diplomat.
The Vietnamese Party chief highly appreciated the efforts of Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko and the relevant agencies of both countries in effectively implementing high-level agreements and bilateral cooperation initiatives.
Notably, he said, recent high-level exchanges, such as Russian Prime Minister Mishustin’s visit to Vietnam in January 2025 and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son’s ongoing visit to Russia in early April, demonstrate the deep political trust between the two countries, and open up opportunities for both sides to discuss specific measures to comprehensively enhance bilateral ties.
To further strengthen cooperation, To Lam proposed that both sides continue to increase high-level exchanges, closely coordinate at multilateral forums, and effectively implement the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement. He also emphasized the need to identify new directions, measures, and projects for cooperation in key areas such as defence and security, high technology, energy, nuclear power, fundamental sciences, and arts and culture.
Looking ahead, both sides should effectively implement bilateral agreements, address any outstanding issues, and create breakthroughs in expanding practical cooperation in Vietnam-Russia relations, he said.
Sharing his host’s view, Ambassador Bezdetko reaffirmed that Russia considers Vietnam a traditional and priority partner in the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized Russia’s commitment to strengthening traditional friendship and fostering effective cooperation across all fields of mutual interest.
The diplomat pledged to continue promoting close collaboration between Russian agencies and Vietnamese partners to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also stated that he and the Russian Embassy in Vietnam would make every effort to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in key areas such as defence-security and trade-investment, while also exploring new potential areas of cooperation.
Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, Bezdetko announced that the Russian Embassy in Hanoi would organize various meaningful activities to reflect the strong traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
