Vietnam considers Brazil a key trade partner in South America

VOV.VN - Vietnam always considers Brazil a major and important partner in South America, Ambassador Phan Thi Kim Hoa told Rolando Caiado, governor of the Brazilian State of Goias during a recent working visit to the state.

Hoa said at the meeting with the governor that last year saw two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Brazil reach US$6.78 billion, in which nearly US$114 million was generated from the trade between Vietnam and Goias. The two sides have cooperated in various fields, from politics to economy, military and culture.

She expressed her hope the two countries would continue to support each other in socio-economic development of each country, and closely coordinate at international organizations and multilateral forums.

The Ambassador also reaffirmed the need for ASEAN countries to have a broad approach, strategic vision and responsible contributions, to address emerging challenges and promote sustainable recovery for the sake of the people.

Hoa joined ambassadors of other ASEAN states of the ASEAN Committee in Brazil during the working trip to Goias.

Welcoming the ambassadors on February 10, Goias’ governor Caiado highly appreciated the achievements and contributions of the ASEAN community to the world in general and Brazil in particular. He noted the trade turnover between ASEAN and Goias has increased significantly in recent years, especially in the agricultural sector.

In 2022, Goias exported goods worth US$1.23 billion to ASEAN countries. up 83% compared to 2021, and imported goods worth US$331.35 million, up 15% year on year. Last year also saw bilateral trade balance between Goiás and ASEAN countries increase by 133%.

Brazil in general and Goias in particular attach importance to increasing trade cooperation with ASEAN, a market of more than 600 million consumers at present, and such a close cooperation will bring greater benefits for the state, said the governor.

On February 10, the Ambassadors had a meeting with the leadership of the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (Fecomercio).

The management of Fecomercio expected to develop an agenda for trade in goods, technology, services and tourism with ASEAN in the near future, including the opening of direct flights between Brazil and Asia, as well as conducting student exchanges between universities.

Ambassador Pham Thi Kim Hoa affirmed that Brazil is one of the leading countries in the development of green technology, as well as the world’s leading exporter of agricultural products thanks to agricultural technology advances. Therefore, she said Vietnam and other ASEAN countries need to learn valuable experiences of Brazil in this field.

On this occasion, the ambassadors visited Tamburil cattle farm, the largest breeding and milk production farm in Brazil.

Goias is one of the 27 states of Brazil. The state has an area of 340.257 km² with a population of 7.2 million (the 2022 data). Its GDP last year was estimated at US$43.3 billion.
