Vietnam condemns violent attacks against civilians in Middle East
VOV.VN - Vietnam strongly condemns violent attacks against civilians, said spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang, commenting on escalating tensions in the Middle East.
“We call on all parties concerned to immediately cease fire, stop the use of force, and respect international humanitarian law,” Hang said in a Foreign Ministry communique released on October 18.
She called on the parties to resume negotiations and resolve disagreements through peaceful means, on the basis of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions in order to achieve a fair, satisfactory and lasting solution to the Middle East peace process, ensuring the lives, security and safety of the people.
“Vietnam supports and stays ready to engage in joint efforts of the international community to promote dialogue and humanitarian support for people in conflict areas, contributing to ensuring peace, security and stability in the region and the world,” added the spokesperson.
On October 7, Hamas suddenly launched attacks against Israel, killing and kidnapping many civilians. Israel then retaliated with a series of air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Tensions escalated on October 17 when Al-Ahli hospital on the Gaza Strip was assaulted. Hamas’ health agency initially reported at least 500 people were killed, but later put the casualties at 471 people. Hamas said another 314 people were injured and 28 were in critical condition.
