Vietnam, Cambodia foster joint transnational crime fight

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Cambodian Ministry of Interior agreed to increase cooperation in crime prevention and control during their online talks on August 3.

The talks were co-chaired by Minister of Public Security of Vietnam To Lam and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Cambodia Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng,

The two sides vowed to work closely together toward the goal, including enhancing information exchange on activities of transnational crimes, especially those related to economic affairs, drug smuggling, human trafficking, and other crimes.

They will also cooperate closely in investigating and verifying criminal information related to citizens of each country.

Both sides stressed the need to work harder to ensure border security, prevent illegal border crossings, while continuing to share information on immigration.

They agreed to strengthen coordination in preventing and combating individuals or organizations that commit all illegal gambling acts in each respective territory.

In addition, they will continue to effectively implement international agreements and treaties to which the two sides are members, consult and support each other at global and regional forums in the fight against crime, and increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, as well as cooperation in human resource training.

They were adamant that the two sides will ensure security and safety for reciprocal visits by the two countries’ senior leaders, while creating favourable conditions for citizens of one country to live, study and work lawfully in the other country.

It was reported during the talks that the two ministries have over the past time coordinated closely in handling security and safety problems, and preventing hostile forces from taking advantage of the situation in both countries to distort, sabotage and do harm to the traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the end of the talks, Minister To Lam and Minister Krolahom Sar Kheng signed a document to further boost cooperation between the two ministries.
