Vietnam calls for end to conflict, peace restoration in Ukraine

VOV.VN - A Vietnamese diplomat called for international efforts to end conflicts and restore peace in Ukraine, while addressing a UN General Assembly’s emergency session on Ukraine on October 12.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN said Vietnam closely follows and is particularly concerned about recent developments in Ukraine.

He emphasized the need to ensure compliance with the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law, including non-interference in internal affairs, and the non-use or threat of use of force in international relations.

He called for peaceful settlement of international disputes in accordance with international law, and especially respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries.

The Ambassador shared Vietnam’s history of national construction and defense in the past, and affirmed Vietnam opposes any act of threatening or using force to infringe upon the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries.

Vietnam continues to call for an end to conflicts, restoration of peace, and protection of people and essential infrastructure, while persistently promoting dialogue and negotiation to find a peaceful, long-term solution to disagreements on the basis of appropriate and thorough respect for international law and the UN Charter, taking into account the legitimate interests and concerns of relevant parties, for peace and stability in the region and the rest of the world, Giang stressed.

Vietnam also welcomes and supports diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, including those by the United Nations Secretary-General and other stakeholders, and it stays willing to make active contributions to the future reconstruction and recovery process in Ukraine.
