Vietnam calls for confidence building, dialogue promotion at WEF Meeting

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on countries, organisations and stakeholders to jointly promote confidence building, dialogue, and solidarity to effectively resolve issues according to the law and ensure harmony of interests between relevant parties, at an annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dalian, China.

In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the WEF’s 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions on June 25, Chinh lauded the meeting’s theme of “Next Frontiers for Growth” which he said shows the strategic vision and responsibility of the WEF as well as the important role of China in the world’s future development.

According to the PM, the world is strongly being impacted by the rapid development of science and technology, innovation, especially digitalization and artificial intelligence; climate change, natural disasters, resource depletion, and population aging; and the increasingly clear polarization due to conflicts, wars, and geostrategic, geopolitical, and geoeconomic competition globally.

However, the world is being shaped and led by the development of the digital economy, green economy and circular economy, as well as high-quality human resources, artificial intelligence and the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.

These are issues of special importance, having a profound impact on the globe, all people, and all sectors that requires countries, organisations and stakeholders to have new thinking and global, all-people, comprehensive, and win-win approaches, for the overall benefit of both the immediate and long-term interests of humanity, stressed the Vietnamese PM.

In his view, the trend of polarization in globalization on the one hand opens up opportunities for cooperation and economic integration, but on the other hand poses many potential risks, including supply chain and production chain disruption, and increasingly fierce competition. In this regard, diversifying markets, products, production chains, and supply chains is an appropriate and effective solution.

He highlighted the role and voice as well as contributions of developing countries in shaping cooperation frameworks and new development trends globally, saying Asia, China and ASEAN are increasingly asserting their role as important driving forces, centers of dynamic development and one of the locomotives leading the world to new frontiers for growth.

In addition to promoting confidence building, dialogue, and solidarity, the Vietnamese leader called on the parties not to politicize and discriminate against science, technology, and global innovation.

He proposed that the WEF, partners and businesses to support and cooperate with developing and poor countries, especially in building and perfecting market economy institutions; providing resources for developing strategic infrastructure systems; transferring advanced technologies, and prioritizing high quality human resource training. He also proposed to strengthen international cooperation in policy formulation, planning and implementation on a regional and global scale.

At the meeting, the PM shared a success story Vietnam has made for the past nearly 40 years which is closely linked to three keywords of reform, innovation and integration. He said from a country experiencing 30 years of war and embargo, Vietnam has become a middle-income economy and ranked among the 40 largest economies in the world.

According to the PM, Vietnam is considered by the international community as a model in healing and restoring the wounds of war, breaking with the past, respecting differences, looking towards the future, turning foes into partners, and successfully achieving the UN millennium development goals. To reap such gains, the country sticks to principle perspectives of maintaining political stability, taking people as the center, goal and driving force for development, and not sacrificing progress, social justice, social security and the environment for simple economic growth.

In particular, he said Vietnam has been and will continue to proactively and positively contribute to a comprehensively strong, united, cooperative ASEAN community with unity in diversity. Vietnam and ASEAN will continue to coordinate closely with China, the World Economic Forum and partners to strongly promote new growth drivers, while striving to maintain and continuously strengthen the environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese PM singled out China as one of the countries with a leading role in solving regional and global issues. He expressed his belief that China will continue to increase its important role in the global economy, especially in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, as well as international economic cooperation and connectivity.

In conclusion, he again called on the world to unite, uphold multilateralism and human rights, and work together towards new frontiers for growth, for the prosperous development of the world, for a happier, better life of all.
