Vietnam, Azerbaijan look to enhance Strategic Partnership

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their Strategic Partnership, with a focus on economic ties, energy, transport, technology and cooperation at multilateral forums.

The commitment was made during a meeting in Hanoi on October 30 between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam and Elchin Amirbayov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed Vietnam’s appreciation for the valuable support Azerbaijan has provided during Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and its subsequent development. Amid regional and global changes, Vietnam wishes to further strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples and in the interests of peace, cooperation and development, he told his guest.

Congratulating Azerbaijan on its achievements under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, he described the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during his state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025 as a historic milestone. The upgrade opened a new chapter in relations and reflected the shared political commitment and strategic vision of the two countries’ leaders.

He called on both sides to build on their longstanding friendship and mutual trust, make better use of their complementary strengths and opportunities, and effectively implement existing agreements and commitments to ensure the Strategic Partnership delivers tangible benefits.

Expanding practical cooperation

Amirbayov expressed admiration for Vietnam’s rapid development and confidence that the country would achieve further socio-economic progress and enhance its international standing under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He voiced Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries, established on the foundations laid by President Ho Chi Minh and Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev and nurtured by successive generations of leaders and people in both nations.

Amirbayov also conveyed President Aliyev’s positive assessment of leader To Lam’s state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025 and the Azerbaijani leader’s desire to maintain regular, candid and trusted exchanges with the top Vietnamese leader to advance bilateral relations.

Both sides agreed on the importance of increasing high-level and other exchanges, improving cooperation mechanisms and mobilising ministries, localities, agencies and businesses to translate high-level commitments into concrete programmes, plans and joint projects.

Priority areas include trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, logistics, science and technology, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Strengthening coordination at multilateral forums

Both host and guest highlighted the similarities between the two countries and their shared interest in close coordination and mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums.

They placed particular emphasis on the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and other international mechanisms in which both countries participate, with the aim of contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in their respective regions and worldwide.

During the meeting, Amirbayov conveyed President Aliyev’s greetings and best wishes to the Vietnamese leader, who in turn sent his greetings to the Azerbaijani president and invited Aliyev and his wife to visit Vietnam in the near future.
