Vietnam attends World Government Summit in UAE
VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu attended the ninth World Government Summit (WGS), visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and co-hosted the second political consultation between Vietnam and the UAE from February 13-15.
Addressing the WGS 2023, Hieu reiterated Vietnam’s policy of an independent and self-reliant economy, emphasizing that the country is making efforts to fulfill its zero net commitment by 2050 and accelerate economic transformation based on scientific and technological advances and innovation.
He said Vietnam has issued the National Digital Transformation Strategy with priority to be given to supporting the training of new working skills to meet the requirements of a future digital society. He also called on international partners and investment funds to pay attention to and invest in priority areas such as green economy and digital economy in Vietnam.
While attending the WGS 2023, Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu had meetings with Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Raşit Meredow and Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
Hieu suggested that countries continue to closely coordinate at international forums and organizations, create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses and goods in their host countries, and strengthen cooperation in priority areas such as trade, tourism, investment, climate change response, maritime and aviation transport.
Leaders of the two countries highly appreciated Hieu’s proposals and agreed they would implement practical and effective measures to promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time.
During his stay, Hieu co-chaired the second political consultation with his UAE counterpart Saeed Mubarak Al-Hajeri, and met with a number of UAE officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre Essa Kazim, Vice President of UAE Industries of Mubadala Investment Company Jasem Al Neaimi, Executive Director of Elite Argo Dr. Abdulmonem Al Marzooqi, and Director of Al Maya Supermarket Group Kamal Vachani.
Both sides expressed their delight at the recent positive developments in bilateral relations. According to the UAE statistics, the Vietnam – UAE trade turnover in 2022 hit more than US$8.8 billion, an increase of over 35% compared to 2021, making the UAE the largest trading partner of Vietnam in the Middle East.
They agreed to work closely together to implement political-diplomatic, economic and cultural activities in 2023 to celebrate 30 years of bilateral diplomacy, with a focus on promoting delegation exchanges, supporting each other at international and regional forums, establishing the Vietnam-UAE Business Council, negotiating important economic-trade cooperation documents, and improving cooperation efficiency in priority fields such as investment, oil and gas, energy, tourism, logistics, among others.
The two sides also agreed to create favourable conditions for goods, especially Vietnamese agricultural products, to make inroads into the UAE and support Vietnam in developing the Halal industry, along with organizing cultural and art exchange activities.
They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
