Vietnam asks for Boeing assistance to develop aviation industry

VOV.VN - Vietnam expects to get Boeing assistance to develop its aviation industry, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told a senior leader of Boeing in Hanoi.

Receiving Brendan Nelson, senior vice president of The Boeing Company and president of Boeing Global on May 12, Chinh highly appreciated Boeing developing a long-term cooperation plan in Vietnam, including the opening of its representative office in the country in 2021.

Vietnam considers the US as one of its most important partners and it wishes to promote the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership with economic-trade cooperation serving as the major pillar in bilateral relations, said the PM.

He briefed his guest on Vietnam’s investment climate and said the government is willing to accompany foreign businesses, including US firms, to operate successfully in the country.

The government leader acknowledged Boeing as an important and long-term partner in developing the civil aviation industry in Vietnam.

According to the PM, Vietnam has great potential to develop the aviation industry fuelled by the increasing post-pandemic travel and trade exchange demand.

He proposed that Boeing continue to support Vietnam in developing the aviation ecosystem with a long-term and strategic vision, including expanding airlines’ fleet, managing terminals, and establishing more facilities to supply components, technical and maintenance services in the country.

Brendan Nelson, for his part, viewed Vietnam as an important partner for Boeing thanks to its increasingly important position in the region, a lucrative market of 100 million consumers, high economic growth, and its attractive investment destination.

He spoke highly of the commitment and efforts of the Vietnamese Government in achieving the goal of reducing net emissions to zero by 2050, and noted Vietnam has great potential to develop the aviation industry on the back of its sustainable aviation fuel and increasingly qualified human resources.

He said Boeing would consider Chinh’s proposals and assured that the company will continue to expand investment and cooperation in the long-term in Vietnam.
