Vietnam and UK promote cooperation in migration

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long on Mach 23 had a working session with MP Robert Jenrick, Minister of State for Immigration of the UK Home Office.

At the meeting, both sides highly appreciated bilateral cooperation in immigration and crime prevention over the years, considering this an important pillar in the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the UK.

They examined the possibility of expanding legal immigration opportunities for workers in a number of industries in which Vietnam has strengths and the UK is in great demand. Alongside deterrent measures the UK is taking to prevent illegal immigration, the two sides consider promoting legal immigration as an effective and long-term way to achieve this goal.

The two sides also discussed the implementation of the outcomes of the first migration dialogue held in Hanoi last August, and preparations for the second dialogue be held in London this year.

Ambassador Long thanked the leaders of the British Home Office for their interest in promoting the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries over the years. He also requested that the British side continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese expatriates, including students, to live, work and study in the UK, thus making practical contributions to their home country and fostering the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Jenrick suggested that the two sides work closely together to organise activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the UK. He affirmed his willingness to support Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK in implementing these activities, as well as taking specific measures to promote the strategic partnership between the two countries.
