Vietnam and Thailand hold political consultation in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam Do Hung Viet and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sarun Charoensuwan co-chaired the ninth political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in Hanoi on June 13.

The two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitments not to permit any individual or organization to use the territory of one country to harm another.

They agreed to strengthen cooperation between relevant agencies of the two Foreign Ministries, effectively implement the 2022-2027 Action Program for the Enhanced Strategic Partnership, and promote the signing of important documents in various fields.

They noted with satisfaction the continued strong development of bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, and vowed to effectively implement the ‘Three Connections’ initiative so as to raise bilateral trade turnover to US$25 billion in the near future.

The ‘Three Connections’ initiative covers supply chain, economies, businesses and localities; and sustainable growth strategies of the two countries.

Viet suggested that the two sides make effective use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms and exchange specific measures to remove difficulties, facilitate and further open up the commodity market.

He also suggested that Thailand consider limiting the application of trade barriers, help reduce the trade deficit for Vietnam, and increase investment in major fields such as tourism, renewable energy, manufacturing, food processing, smart agriculture, infrastructure, while simultaneously expanding cooperation to new fields of digital economy, green economy and high technology.

The two sides also consented to ramp up cooperation in other important fields such as agriculture, transportation, maritime transportation, tourism, culture, education, people-to-people exchanges, as well as cooperation between their localities.

Charoensuwan affirmed that Vietnam is Thailand’s important strategic partner in the region, and that Thailand wishes to further strengthen extensive cooperation in all fields with Vietnam.

He agreed that the two sides should consider and limit the application of trade barriers to each other’s commodities.

He briefed his host on Thai businesses’ operations in Vietnam, saying many businesses wish to expand their investment, and they hope to receive further support from the government of Vietnam.

The Thai diplomat also highly appreciated Vietnamese expatriates’ role and contributions to Thailand’s socio-economic development, saying the community serves as an important bridge to enhance mutual understanding and relations between the two countries.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to increase the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand both bilaterally and internationally that will help the two countries respond more effectively to challenges towards sustainable development and contribute to peace and stability in the region.

They affirmed their desires to build the East Sea into a sea of peace, stability, cooperation and development. They vowed to work closely with other ASEAN countries to strictly and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and soon achieve an effective and efficient Code of Conduct in accordance with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
