Vietnam and Laos to prepare for coming high level meetings
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Laos will work closely together to best prepare for comping high - level meetings, including the meeting of the top leaders from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, the 47th session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and the 11th Vietnam-Laos Ministerial Political Consultation.
The agreement was reached during phone talks on November 27 between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son of Vietnam and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane of Laos.
Son proposed that the two sides coordinate relevant ministries and agencies to effectively implement high-level agreements, resolve obstacles in key projects, and enhance bilateral economic cooperation, while realizing the Action Program for Cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries for 2020-2025, focusing on economic diplomacy.
Both sides agreed to effectively implement legal documents on borders and related agreements, prioritizing the opening and upgrading of border gates to enhance connectivity. They consented to foster close collaboration on consular affairs and citizen protection, and enhance information sharing and exchanges between their relevant agencies.
The Vietnamese side committed to organizing further training programs on foreign affairs for Lao officials.
Son proposed that both sides maintain close cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums and share perspectives on common concerns.
Son on this occasion conveyed congratulatory messages from senior Vietnamese leaders to Lao leaders on the 49th National Day of Laos and the 104th birth anniversary of the late Lao President Kaysone Phomvihane.
Thongsavanh for his part expressed deep gratitude for the valuable and effective support provided by Vietnam to Laos over the years, especially as Laos assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
He expressed his desire to soon welcome Son to Laos to co-chair the 11th Vietnam – Laos Ministerial Political Consultation in Vientiane, further consolidating the close relationship between the two countries.
