Vietnam and Hungary pledge to enhance comprehensive cooperation
VOV.VN - Recognising the great potential for cooperation, Vietnam and Hungary have agreed to deepen their multifaceted partnership, making their comprehensive relations more effective and substantive.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on October 20 between Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and Laszlo Kover, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary.
Speaker Kover is leading a high-ranking Hungarian parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Vietnam from October 18 - 22 at the invitation of the top Vietnamese legislator.
Chairman Man warmly welcomed Speaker Kover’s visit, emphasising its significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Hungary (1950–2025). He affirmed that the visit contributes to consolidating and enhancing the traditional friendship between the two countries and strengthening cooperation between their legislative bodies.
Chairman Man recalled that Hungary was among the first ten countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam. Over the past seven decades, the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two nations have been nurtured and developed by generations of leaders and citizens.
According to the top legislator, Vietnam always treasures and remembers Hungary’s valuable support during its struggle for independence and reunification, as well as in its national development efforts today.
Vietnam attaches great importance to further promoting its traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Hungary - its first comprehensive partner in Central and Eastern Europe, he told his guest.
Speaker Kover congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable achievements in national renewal, development, and international integration. He expressed his belief that the upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam would be a great success, ushering the country into a new era of prosperity and growth.
Under Hungary’s “Eastern Opening” policy, Vietnam remains its most important partner in Southeast Asia and Hungary seeks to expand cooperation with Vietnam across all fields, he stated.
Despite geographical distance and cultural differences, he said, Hungary shares a uniquely close relationship with Vietnam and sees enormous potential for further cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education, and training.

Both host and guest exchanged information on the situation in each country and the activities of their respective parliaments. They spoke highly of the positive developments in bilateral relations, reflected in the increasing exchanges between high-level leaders and parliamentary committees, and the effective cooperation between the two National Assemblies at inter-parliamentary forums, especially within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Both sides agreed to enhance exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly high-level visits, through all channels in order to strengthen political trust and mutual understanding as a foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation in all areas.
The two leaders also agreed to deepen Vietnam – Hungary cooperation in science and technology, education and training, natural resources and environment, health care, culture, and tourism.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two sides underscored the importance of closer exchanges and experience-sharing in legislation, oversight, and decision-making on major national issues. They acknowledged both sides’ efforts in monitoring and supporting the effective implementation of high-level agreements, while coordinating closely at inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asia–Europe Parliamentary Partnership. They also agreed on the main theme for the 6th legislative meeting between the two National Assemblies, scheduled for the first half of 2026.
During the talks, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea (known internally as the South China Sea), and of settling disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
On this occasion, Chairman Man asked the Hungarian parliament and authorities at all levels to continue facilitating the Vietnamese community in Hungary in their integration and stable livelihoods, contributing positively to the friendship between the two countries.
Following the talks, Speaker Kover and his delegation observed the 10th session of Vietnam’s 15th National Assembly in Hanoi.
Later the same day, Chairman Man hosted an official banquet in honour of the Hungarian National Assembly delegation.
