Vietnam and Cuba promote all-round cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cuba agreed to increase multifaceted cooperation during talks in Havana on April 20 evening (Cuba time) between Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, and Vuong Dinh Hue, chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
The two sides consented to maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels, existing cooperation mechanisms, including theoretical workshops between the two communist parties, meetings of the Inter-Governmental Committee, political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, policy dialogues between the two Defense Ministries, as well as effective implementation of the inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanism between the two legislatures.
They agreed to support policies to encourage businesses to increase investment in the fields suitable to each country’s needs, conditions and capacity, effectively implement rice, corn and seafood production projects in Cuba, and at the same time concretize key cooperation fields such as biotechnology, health care, and tourism infrastructure construction.
They stressed the need to further strengthen the exchange of experiences in legislation and supervision, share experiences in macro and finance-banking-monetary management, state-owned enterprise innovation and other fields of mutual interest.
President of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power Esteban Lazo Hernandez affirmed that Cuba always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen the special traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.
He highly appreciated Vietnam’s achievements in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining economic growth momentum, and ensuring social security. He thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their solidarity and support he described as impartial and transparent for the Cuban cause of national defense, construction and development, especially in the current difficult time.
Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue congratulated Cuba on successfully holding the general election in April 2023, and expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Cuban Communist Party, Cuba would continue to record new achievements towards the goal of building a prosperous and happy socialist nation.
Hue thanked Cuba for sending medical experts, donating COVID-19 drugs and providing 5 million doses of Abdala vaccine to help Vietnam combat and control the pandemic.
The two leaders discussed measures to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries in general and the two legislatures in particular. They spoke highly of the vivid and substantive development of the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Cuba in the context of the complicated world situation.
They noted that bilateral economic-trade-investment relations have in recent times developed actively and diversely in various fields such as agriculture and food security, production of consumer goods and clean energy. The two countries have maintained security-defense cooperation, as well as cooperation in the fields of culture, education - training, science – technology, and cooperation between their localities.
The two sides agreed to jointly organize activities to celebrate 60 years of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam (September 1963), and 50 years of leader Fidel Castro’s first visit to Vietnam (September 1973).
Both host and guest also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Hue, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, announced the decision to donate 5,000 tonnes of rice to the Cuban people tons of rice, and the token of a tablet shipment to the Cuban legislature and local people's councils.
After the talks, the two leaders signed a document on establishing an inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanism between the two legislatures.
They also witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents in the fields of construction, justice, science-technology, youth and information exchange.
Hue is leading a high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam on an official visit to Cuba.
