Vietnam and Cambodia vow to strengthen cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia should maintain and cultivate their traditional friendship and cooperative relations that are developing positively for future generations, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and visiting Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet shared the view during their meeting in Hanoi on December 11.

Receiving the Cambodian PM, Trong welcomed Hun Manet’s visit which he said would give fresh impetus to Vietnam-Cambodia relations. He congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the 2023 parliamentary election in which Hun Manet was later elected Prime Minister of Cambodia.

He affirmed Vietnam’s support for Cambodia’s construction and development, and believed the Cambodian people would reap new and greater achievements, successfully implementing the political platform of the Cambodian People’s Party for 2023 - 2028 and the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I proposed by the Government.

The General Secretary recalled the historical tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance between the two Parties and two countries, as well as the relationship between the Parties and states of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, which he said are valuable assets and a source of great strength behind the revolutionary cause in each country.

He proposed that the two sides effectively implement agreements reached at high-level meetings between senior leaders of Vietnam and Cambodia, and between senior leaders of the three ruling parties of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in various fields, as well as at the 20th meeting of the Vietnam - Cambodia Joint Committee.

The two Governments need to direct ministries, agencies and localities to promote connections between the two economies, strengthen defense - security cooperation, and coordinate closely at international and regional forums, he said.

PM Hun Manet for his part briefed his host on major developments in Cambodia, as well as the outcome of his earlier talks during the day with Vietnamese PM Pham Minh Chinh. He affirmed Cambodia will continue to implement development policies and guidelines set out by the Cambodian People’s Party, including deepening relations with Vietnam.

He also assured his host that Cambodia would coordinate closely with Vietnam to effectively implement high-level agreements, actively contributing to preserving and strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
