Vietnam affirms close comprehensive partnership with Hungary

VOV.VN - Vietnam always wishes to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Hungary, which is Vietnam’s first and only comprehensive partner in Central Eastern Europe.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong was speaking at a meeting with Laszlo Kover, speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, in Budapest on April 2 (local time).

Phuong, who was on an official visit to Hungary, spoke highly of the positive development of cooperative relations between Vietnam and Hungary, especially in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, education-training, and culture.

The two countries maintain regular exchange delegations at all levels, including the Hungary visits by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in June 2022 and by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in January 2024, as well as the Vietnam visit by the first deputy speaker of the National Assembly in January 2022.

Phuong expected that the two sides would continue to increase visit exchanges through all channels to help consolidate and strengthen political trust and mutual understanding as a foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields.

He thanked Hungary for actively ratifying the European Union – Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA) and proposed that Hungary, in its role as the EU Presidency in the second half of 2024, lobby the remaining EU member states to ratify the agreement, as well as lobbying the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the yellow card warming against Vietnamese seafood products imported into the bloc.

According to Phuong, the cooperation agreement signed during the official visit to Hungary by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in 2022 is an important basis for the two sides to deepen parliamentary cooperation, contributing to building political trust and mutual understanding between the two countries in the coming time.

On this occasion, he respectfully conveyed Hue’s invitation to Kover to visit Vietnam as soon as possible.

Kover for his part affirmed that Vietnam is Hungary’s most important partner in Southeast Asia.

He described the relationship between the Hungarian National Assembly and the Vietnamese National Assembly as special, and emphasized that the Hungarian side always tries to become an important pillar in Hungary-Vietnam cooperation.
