Venezuela considers Vietnam a role model for development, says President Maduro

VOV.VN - President Nicolas Maduro has expressed his impression of Vietnam’s development achievements in all fields in recent years, becoming a role model for many countries around the world, including Venezuela.

Maduro was speaking during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang in Caracas on April 18 (local time).

He welcomed Quang’s visit which he said would open a new period of cooperation between the two countries, especially when both sides are celebrating 35 years of their diplomacy this year.

He recalled his good impression of his Vietnam visit in 2015, and affirmed that Venezuela would continue the legacy of its late president Hugo Chavez in strengthening ties with Vietnam.

Quang for his part congratulated Venezuela on its post-pandemic socio-economic recovery gains and expressed his belief that Venezuela, under the leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and President Maduro, would continue to succeed in national development and elevate its position in the world.

Vietnam considers Venezuela one of its traditional friends and an important partner in Latin America, he told his host.

Quang briefed his host on the outcome of his earlier meetings with Venezuelan ministers and businesses, and suggested that both sides increase high-level visit exchanges, improve the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, and promote economic, trade and investment cooperation in accordance with the good political relations and potential of each side.

Maduro welcomed the results and affirmed that he would direct Venezuela’s ministries, sectors and localities to soon negotiate cooperation documents and implement specific projects with Vietnam.

The Government of Venezuela will create maximum conditions for Vietnamese firms to do business and invest in Venezuela, he assured his guest.

The two sides agreed to prepare for high-level leader visits, soon convene the fourth session of the Vietnam – Venezuela Intergovernmental Committee, as well as to deploy other cooperation mechanisms between their foreign ministries and businesses.

They also agreed to enhance bilateral economic, trade and investment relations through increasing the exchange of business delegations and appropriate promotion and connection activities. They will take advantage of existing cooperation mechanisms to solve outstanding problems and improve the effectiveness of economic cooperation.

The two governments will accompany their respective businesses to encourage and facilitate cooperation projects and bilateral investments, especially in oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunications and construction, they said.

The two leaders also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern and agreed to address disputes by peaceful means in compliance with international laws and the United Nations Charter.

Following the meeting, Venezuelan President Maduro and Vietnamese Deputy PM Quang witnessed a signing ceremony of five cooperation agreements in agriculture, petrochemical refining, telecommunications and construction materials production.
