USAID Administrator Samantha Power visits Vietnam

VOV.VN - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on March 10 received Samantha Power, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), who is in Hanoi for a visit to Vietnam.

Son highly appreciated Power’s visit, which he said is one of the activities to take place this year in celebration of 10 years of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries.

He expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-US relations in recent times, including USAID’s important contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development through its funded projects in the fields of the handling of war legacy, as well as health care, education, and capacity building for localities and businesses.

The projects vividly demonstrate the strong development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and each other’s political institutions, in line with the interests of the two peoples, and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world, said Son.

Power for her part said USAID-funded projects have been implemented effectively in Vietnam, including the ongoing dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa airbase in Dong Nai province.

USAID will continue to address war legacy issues, including remediating dioxin at Bien Hoa airbase and improving DNA testing capacity for Vietnamese scientists to identify remains of Vietnamese military personnel missing in action, she said.

The administrator also assured that USAID would continue to help improve healthcare and social services to better the quality of life of people with disabilities, support Vietnam to mitigate the impact of climate change, and develop human resources and health infrastructure in response to infectious diseases.
