US President Biden proud to have strengthened relations with Vietnam

VOV.VN - US President Joe Biden has uploaded a video clip on his Facebook reviewing his recent State visit to Vietnam, saying he is proud to have strengthened ties with Vietnam.

“Following 50 years of progress in the relationship between our nations, from conflict to normalization, I am proud to have strengthened ties with Vietnam – a critical Indo-Pacific partner – even further,” Biden wrote.

The clip summarizes his activities in Hanoi, including the official welcoming ceremony, the high-level talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, and the joint press briefing during which both leaders announce the lifting of Vietnam – US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.

The clip also highlighted the US President’s meetings with other senior Vietnamese leaders, such as State President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.

The video also records the US President’s statements at meetings. He shared, “This trip is a historic moment. The US has strengthened its relationship with another important partner in the Indo-Pacific."

“I’m incredibly proud of how our nations and our people have built trust and understanding over the decades, and work to repair the painful legacy the war left on both our nations”

“It’s work that we pledged today to continue. Our cooperation on these painful issues, as well as on forging new legacies is one of shared peace and prosperity. It’s a powerful reminder of all we can accomplish when we are able to transcend the pain of the past and embrace a future of progress, one grounded on unity of our people.”

The President affirmed that “Vietnam is a critical power in the world and a bellwether in this vital region. I look forward to continuing this new chapter in the story of our nations”.

In a Joint Leaders’ Statement on elevating the Vietnam-US ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership on September 11, the two sides stated that since normalization of bilateral relations in 1995, the Vietnam-U.S. relationship has flourished vigorously and fruitfully, growing both in depth and substance. This new chapter will bring bilateral partnership to new heights.

“Together, we will realize the aspirations of the people of our countries for a bright and dynamic future that contributes to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development across a crucial region and the world at large,” reads the statement.
