Tree planting marks 30 years of Vietnam – Israel diplomacy

VOV.VN - A tree planting ceremony was held in the Israeli city of Asdod on February 15 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Israel.

Among participants at the ceremony were Asdod’s vice mayor Eli Nacht and leaders of relevant agencies of the city.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese ambassador to Israel Ly Duc Trung noted the tree planting ceremony kick-started a range of activities to be held this year to mark 30 years of diplomacy between the two countries.

Both sides will promote many cooperation activities this year for the common development of the two countries and people-to-people connections, he stressed.

Vice Mayor Eli Nacht for his part said that diplomatic relations would be meaningless without practical activities between agencies, businesses and people of the two countries, helping to promote economic development and enhance mutual understanding. According to the official, tree planting is one of those practical activities.

The tree planting campaign was initiated by Alexander Oberfeld, Asdod City Councilor. In his opinion, the relationship between Vietnam and Israel has yet to be on par with the two countries’ potential.

As one of the largest and most developed cities in Israel, Asdod will be the ideal starting point to take the relationship between the two countries to new heights, and we see that Vietnam has a lot of potential for stronger cooperation in the fields of trade, health, and education, he said.

Vietnam and Israel officially established diplomatic relations in 1993. Israel opened its embassy in Hanoi in the same year, and Vietnam established its embassy in Tel Aviv in 2009.

Over the past 30 years, the two countries have maintained many substantive and effective cooperation activities, especially in the fields of trade, technology, agriculture, and education.
