Top legislator visits historic Ho Chi Minh site in Milan
VOV.VN - Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man on April 13 visited Antica Trattoria della Pesa - a historic restaurant in Milan associated with President Ho Chi Minh, as part of his ongoing working trip to Italy.
Located at 10 Via Pasubio, Antica Trattoria della Pesa is recognised as a historic site where Vietnamese President Ho lived and worked during the 1930s, when he traveled from Paris to Milan to meet comrades of the Communist International and Italian friends.
For nearly a century, the city of Milan has preserved the Ho Chi Minh Space, which has been recognised by local authorities as a historical landmark. A commemorative stone plaque was installed in 1990 on the occasion of the leader’s 100th birth anniversary, honouring his contributions during his time in Italy.
Inside the restaurant, one of the rooms is named Ho Chi Minh Room, featuring a full-body bronze statue of the great leader, presented by the Vietnamese State to the city of Milan in 2012, alongside photographs and artifacts related to Vietnam.
Antica Trattoria della Pesa has become a regular destination for Vietnamese delegations visiting Italy, as well as for Italian citizens and international visitors seeking to learn more about President Ho. The site is also frequented by members of the Italian Communist Party and local residents, who hold deep respect for the Vietnamese leader and maintain strong affection for Vietnam.
Expressing deep emotion during the visit, Chairman Man thanked Italian friends for preserving the images and memorabilia of President Ho.
He also met members of the Italy–Vietnam Friendship Association in Milan, acknowledging their long-standing support for Vietnam during both its past struggle for national independence and its current development phase.
The Vietnamese leader expressed his wish for continued strengthening of the Italy–Vietnam Friendship Association and its activities in promoting bilateral ties. He emphasised that people-to-people diplomacy plays a vital role as a bridge connecting the two nations.
“People-to-people diplomacy and friendship organisations serve as important bridges between Vietnam and Italy,” the Chairman stated. He highlighted that the Vietnamese community in Italy is well-integrated, cohesive, and actively contributes to both host society and bilateral relations.
He also reaffirmed that his visit aims to further deepen the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy.
Roberto Cocevari, President of the Italy–Vietnam Friendship Association in Milan, shared his commitment to preserving and promoting the legacy of friendship between the two countries.
He emphasised the importance of educating younger generations to ensure the continuity of friendship ties and expressed his aspiration to strengthen connections between the two communities. He noted that cultural exchange and friendship activities play a key role in enhancing mutual understanding and solidarity between the peoples of both countries.
Cocevari highlighted that the shared aspiration for freedom and independence is a strong, invisible bond linking Vietnam and Italy. This shared value, he said, provides an important foundation for both countries to work toward a better future.
