Top legislator meets Vietnamese students in Italy
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met the Vietnamese Students’ Association and Vietnamese students in Milan on April 12 (local time) as part of his official visit to Italy.
At the meeting, Vu Thi Bich Diep, President of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Italy, said the student community appreciates the National Assembly’s attention to education, shown in expanded scholarship policies that have contributed to an increase in the number of Vietnamese students in Italy in recent years.
She outlined difficulties faced by Vietnamese students and intellectuals during their studies and daily life in Italy, and proposed strengthening support mechanisms for legal and residency procedures, as well as mechanisms to connect overseas Vietnamese students with labour markets at home and abroad. The association also recommended further improvements in policies to attract high-quality human resources back to Vietnam and to enhance the role of the Vietnamese student community as a support network.
In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the NA leader conveyed greetings and best wishes from Party and State leaders to Vietnamese students in Italy.
Providing updates on the domestic situation, he said Vietnam has successfully organised the 14th National Party Congress, elections for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term, and has consolidated its leadership apparatus for the new term. Major orientations have been set to bring the country into a new period of development, with a focus on high-quality human resources.
He said science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are key to achieving growth, maintaining macroeconomic stability and controlling inflation. The Party has issued Resolution No. 57 on these areas, while the National Assembly has revised the Law on Science and Technology, adopted the Law on Artificial Intelligence, and continued to fine-tune the legal framework for digital transformation and industry.
On human resource policies, he said the State has created favourable conditions for students returning home to access jobs and the labour market, and has introduced policies to attract experts and scientists, including additional incentives adopted by some localities.
He acknowledged the proposals raised by students, describing them as relevant, and said the National Assembly would direct its agencies to coordinate with ministries and relevant bodies to study and respond, in order to meet legitimate expectations and make better use of overseas Vietnamese resources.
The top legislator called on the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy to continue supporting students and ensuring favourable conditions for their studies and daily life. He also encouraged Vietnamese students to continue their studies and apply their knowledge and experience to contribute to national development.
He underlined the role of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Italy, particularly in Milan, in connecting and supporting students.
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings on diligence in study, thinking and work, he encouraged students to actively engage in science, technology and innovation, enabling them to contribute to their homeland when they return toward Vietnam’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2045.
