Top legislator ends IPU-152 trip, reinforcing multilateral role, bilateral ties
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man returned to Hanoi on April 18, concluding his working trip to Italy and Türkiye where he also attended the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Held under the theme “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations,” the IPU-152 Assembly took place amid a complex and rapidly evolving global landscape. Against this backdrop, the Vietnamese delegation actively engaged in discussions and contributed to key outcomes, reaffirming the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting dialogue, strengthening multilateralism and upholding international law.
In his address at the general debate, Chairman Tran Thanh Man offered a comprehensive assessment of global challenges, describing the current situation as “unprecedentedly complex.” He stressed, however, that the international community still has grounds for optimism through enhanced cooperation, solidarity and concrete actions grounded in respect for international law.
Beyond the plenary session, the Vietnamese delegation took part in a wide range of IPU mechanisms, and made direct contributions to drafting several key Assembly documents.
On the sidelines, Chairman Tran Thanh Man held a series of bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders and senior officials from multiple countries, contributing to enhanced political trust and expanded cooperation across various fields.
During his stay in Türkiye, he met with the country’s leadership, engaged with the Vietnamese community and held working sessions with relevant partners. In Italy, he held talks and meetings with senior leaders, including President Sergio Mattarella and parliamentary leaders, while also participating in a policy dialogue aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation.
The visit also included high-level engagements at the Vatican, reflecting Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to deepen relations with the Holy See.
Across all engagements, the trip generated tangible outcomes, particularly in strengthening ties between legislative bodies and promoting cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges. It also created new momentum for collaboration in emerging sectors, including innovation, digital transformation and sustainable development.
The working trip highlighted Vietnam’s proactive, responsible and effective participation in multilateral parliamentary mechanisms, while reinforcing its role as a reliable partner committed to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
