State President to visit Indonesia next week

VOV.VN - State president Nguyen Xuan Phuc will pay a State-level visit to Indonesia from December 21 – 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a communiqué released on December 16.

The visit has been made at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, said the ministry.

During the visit, Phuc is scheduled to hold talks with Widodo, meet senior Indonesian leaders of the parliament and witness the signing of a number of cooperation documents between the two countries.

The Vietnamese President will also meet with Lim Jock Hoi, secretary general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic ties in December 1955. Both countries upgraded their ties to a level of strategic partnership in 2013, and 2023 will mark 10 years of their strategic partnership.

Vietnam is Indonesia’s fourth largest trading partner in Southeast Asia, while the latter is the former’s third largest trading partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade last year hit US$11.5 billion, beating their already set target of grossing US$10 billion in bilateral trade for the first time. The initial 10 months of this year saw their trade fetch US$11.6 billion.

Currently, Indonesia is ranked 29th among 141 foreign investors in Vietnam, with 101 projects valued at US$611.7 million. Meanwhile, Vietnam is undertaking 17 projects worth US$59 million in Indonesia, mostly in the fields of  trade, information technology, agriculture and industry.
