State President receives newly accredited ambassadors
VOV.VN - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 23 received the ambassadors of Mongolia, Nigeria, Timor - Leste and Algeria who came to present credentials to him.
Meeting with Mongolian Ambassador Jigjee Sereejav, President Phuc wished the diplomat would carry out practical and effective activities, contributing to fostering the two countries’ relations, especially in the fields of trade and investment.
President Phuc suggested that the two sides promote the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on economic and trade cooperation, create conditions for their products to access each other’s markets, and soon open direct flights, to soon raise two-way trade turnover to US$100 million.
He requested Mongolia to voice its continued support for the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam in peacefully resolving disputes in the East Sea, and at the same time affirmed that Vietnamese ministries and agencies will support the Ambassador in fulfilling his duties during the new working term in the country.
Receiving Ambassador Hassan Adamu Mamaniu of Algeria, President Phuc highly appreciated Nigeria’s important role at regional and international forums, especially at the United Nations, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States.
He expressed hope that during the Ambassador’s new term, Vietnam and Algeria would work closely to further develop bilateral relations on a par with the political determination and potential of the two countries.
The President suggested that the two sides focus more on investment and trade cooperation in order to increase bilateral trade turnover to about US$1 billion/year.
He said the two countries should soon sign important agreements such as one on avoidance of double taxation and one on investment promotion and protection, to create a legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
The same say, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Ambassador Olandina Isabel Caeiro Alves of Timor-Leste. He congratulated Timor-Leste on its success in COVID-19 control and affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate with the state in the field of post pandemic sustainable recovery.
Acknowledging that bilateral trade value remains modest, standing at US$55 million/year, President Phuc requested both sides soon implement a mechanism of the joint committee on bilateral cooperation to promote trade and investment ties.
