State president meets with former Lao leaders in Vientiane
VOV.VN - State president Vo Van Thuong on April 11 received former Lao leaders, including former General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone, former General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith and former Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, during his visit to Laos.
Thuong thanked the former Lao leaders for their contributions and support to the comprehensive development of the time-honoured friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
He spoke highly of the achievements Las has made over th years, including contributions by the former Lao leaders, and expressed his belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Laos would soon overcome difficulties and build an independent, self-reliant and prosperous economy to bring benefits to the people.
The former Lao leaders extended greetings to Vietnamese leaders, thanked Vietnam for providing great assistance and support to Laos, and proposed that Laos and Vietnam effectively implement reached agreements and educate young people about the close bond between the two countries.
The same day, President Thuong laid a wreath at the monument to late President Kaysone Phomvihane who had laid the foundation for building, preserving and developing the special friendship and comprehensive relations between Vietnam and Laos.
Also in the morning, President Thuong called at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane, where he talked with the embassy’s officials and representatives of Vietnamese expatriates in Laos.
