State president meets officials of Vietnamese representative agencies in US

VOV.VN - State President Vo Van Thuong on November 14 met with officials and staff of Vietnamese representative agencies in the United States as part of his trip to San Francisco to attend the APEC Leaders’ Week at the invitation of US President Joe Biden.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, briefed the President on the notable operations of the Vietnamese representative agencies in the US, contributing to strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the US, as well as between Vietnam and the UN.

According to Ambassador Dung, Vietnam’s role and prestige has been enhanced recently after the US and Vietnam decided to lift their ties to the comprehensive strategic partnership, and Vietnam fulfilled its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Many US businesses are keen to invest in Vietnam, and most large US businesses are operating efficiently in the country.

In his speech, President Thuong praised the Vietnamese representative agencies in the US for their close and effective coordination, making a practical contribution to the success of Vietnamese diplomacy in recent times, including the lifting of the Vietnam – US partnership and Vietnamese engagement in UN missions.

The upgrade of Vietnam-US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership brings about great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, investment, education, science, manufacturing, and engagement in the global supply chain, he stressed.

However, he said meeting the commitment requires efforts of all sectors, including the diplomatic sector. He asked the Vietnamese Embassy to work hard to concritise cooperation agreements between the two countries.

The President also asked the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN to help expand Vietnam’s relations with international organizations, thereby enhancing the country’s position and reputation globally.

Vietnamese representative agencies in San Francisco and Houston should promote cooperation between Vietnamese and US localities, along with citizen protection, said the President.

He also reminded the agencies to keep Vietnamese expatriates in the US abreast of the current situation in Vietnam and promptly address their concerns.

Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong arrived at San Francisco international airport, USA, on November 14, beginning a business trip to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week at the invitation of President Joe Biden.
