State President leaves for Thailand visit, APEC summit

VOV.VN - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Hanoi on November 16 for an official visit to Thailand and attendance at the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

The trip is said to help foster the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand and demonstrate Vietnam’s efforts to contribute to APEC and the international community.

Phuc is the first leader of the APEC economies to pay an official visit to Thailand on the occasion of the APEC 2022 summit.

Vietnam and Thailand established diplomatic relations on August 6, 1976. Bilateral relations have developed positively in recent times despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thailand is the largest trading partner for Vietnam in ASEAN, with two-way trade turnover last year reaching US$18.8 billion, up 18% year on year. The first nine months of 2022 alone saw bilateral trade value rise 17.2% to US$16.1 billion.

As of September 2022, Thailand has 670 valid projects with a total registered capital of US$13 billion, ranking ninth out of 139 foreign investors in Vietnam.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to release a joint statement and sign a number of cooperation documents in various fields.
