Senior Thai legislator hails Vietnam-Thailand legislative cooperation

VOV.VN - Thai Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Supachai Phosu highly appreciated the cooperative relations between the legislative bodies of Thailand and Vietnam while receiving newly accredited Vietnamese Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh on February 24.

He acknowledged the two legislative bodies’ close coordination at major regional and international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), as well as cooperation activities between the two countries’ Friendship Parliamentary groups,

The Thailand National Assembly will send a high-level delegation to visit Vietnam as soon as the COVID-19 outbreak is completely brought under control, he said.  

The Thai official also acknowledged Vietnam’s COVID-19 control and economic recovery efforts, as well as its recent decision to resume international routes with more than 20 countries, including Thailand.

He praised Thai citizens of Vietnamese origin for their practical contributions to socio-economic development of Thailand in particular as well as Vietnam-Thailand relations in general, and affirmed that the Government and National Assembly of Thailand always support the community.

For his part, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam - Thailand strategic partnership, especially in politics, economy, trade and investment. He noted Thailand is Vietnam’s leading trading partner in ASEAN with two-way trade turnover reaching nearly US$19 billion last year, while it is the ninth largest investor among more than 130 foreign investors in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Embassy considers promoting economic cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand a primary focus of its work, he told his host.

He said during his term he would try his best to strengthen economic connectivity and cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, as well as to support the two business communities to foster trade and investment cooperation.
