Senior leaders pledge to foster Vietnam – Kyrgyzstan relations

VOV.VN - Senior leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, vowed to cultivate the traditional friendship and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan, during their separate meetings with Kyrgyz PM Adylbek Kasimalyev in Hanoi on March 6.

To Lam, during a meeting, affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening its friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan, a traditional friend that has supported the Vietnamese people both in their past struggle for national independence and in national construction efforts today.

The Party leader noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, political and diplomatic relations of the two countries have been strengthened, while economic-trade cooperation has seen positive progress.

However, he reminded, there remains significant untapped potential, and the two countries should further enhance bilateral cooperation across all fields based on reached agreements and commitments.

Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan can effectively leverage the advantages of the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement and utilize their strategic positions to serve as regional connectors between Central Asia and ASEAN, he said.

Kasimalyev, for his part, informed his host about the results of his talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, saying both sides had agreed on specific directions to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both host and guest stressed the importance of enhancing exchanges at all levels through bilateral and multilateral channels, including between political parties, parliaments, and government agencies, to build mutual trust and strengthen political ties.

Recognizing the vast potential for cooperation, the two leaders emphasized the need to further promote cooperation in security and defence, and enhance transport connectivity - including air, rail, and logistics links – to facilitate connections between Vietnam, Southeast Asia, Kyrgyzstan, and Central Asia.

Receiving PM Adylbek Kasimalyev, President Luong Cuong informed his guest about Vietnam’s foreign policy as well as its significant development achievements, and affirmed that Vietnam desires to develop its traditional friendship and cooperative relations with Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the two-way trade volume remains modest compared to the total trade of each country and their potential strengths. He emphasized that relevant ministries and agencies of both countries should enhance coordination to materialize the commitments and agreements made by senior leaders, thereby promoting cooperation across all areas, particularly in trade and investment, education and training, science and technology, transportation, energy, mining, and cultural exchanges.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, both sides agreed to continue close coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, particularly within the frameworks of the United Nations, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam’s support and willingness to serve as a bridge for Kyrgyzstan to expand its relations with other Southeast Asian countries and ASEAN.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the President underscored the importance of maritime security and safety, and urged Kyrgyzstan to support ASEAN and Vietnam’s stance on the matter, based on adherence to international law, especially the United Nations Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

At another meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Prime Minister Adylbek Kasimalyev concurred that in the coming time, the parliaments of Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan will continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments (MSEAP).

They agreed that, the two sides will continue to exchange views and support each other’s positions on regional and international issues of mutual concern, enhance exchanges of high-level delegations, parliamentary committee delegations, and friendship parliamentary groups, and send delegations to multilateral parliamentary activities hosted by each country and develop joint initiatives at these forums.
