Samsung requested to be Vietnam’s trusted partner in technology development

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has expected Samsung will make long-term investments, transfer technology, and accompany Vietnam in innovation and sustainable development, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and technological advancement.

Receiving Roh Tae-moon, mobile chief of Samsung Electronics in Hanoi on August 26, the PM recalled the results of Party General Secretary To Lam’s recent state visit to the Republic of Korea, noting that high-level agreements between the two countries are being actively implemented.

He emphasised that the long-standing Vietnam-RoK relationship, the growing number of Vietnamese in the RoK and Koreans in Vietnam, and the multicultural Vietnamese-Korean families provide a strong foundation for sustainable business cooperation and investment between the two countries.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that Samsung would become a strategic partner of Vietnam, by investing in high technology and research & development (R&D), building a technology ecosystem, focusing on chip manufacturing, electronics, and IT infrastructure development, and promoting digital transformation and developing high-quality human resources.

He expected that the Korean tech giant would increase localisation, transfer technology, and ensure Vietnamese representation in Samsung Vietnam’s leadership.

Stressing the principle of mutual benefit, balanced interests, and shared risks, he encouraged Samsung to expand investments and support Vietnam in achieving growth targets of 8.3–8.5% in 2025 and double-digit growth in 2026–2031.

For his part, Samsung Electronics mobile chief Roh Tae-moon thanked the Vietnamese government, ministries, agencies, and localities for creating a favourable business environment for Korean firms to operate efficiently in the country.

He reaffirmed Samsung’s commitment to continuing to accompany Vietnam, expand investment, develop smart factories, support the local supporting industry, and train production experts to enhance the country’s competitiveness globally.

The two sides agreed to continue strengthening comprehensive cooperation, aiming for mutual development and prosperity, and contributing positively to the Vietnam–RoK friendship.

By the end of June 2025, Samsung’s mobile phone factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen had produced a total of 2 billion phones over 16 years of operation. Revenue in the first half of 2025 reached US$31.8 billion, with exports totaling US$28 billion, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 “Made in Vietnam,” which has been well-received in major international markets.

At the meeting, the PM presented a commemorative plaque marking Samsung’s production of the 2-billionth mobile phone in Vietnam.
