President Yoon Suk-yeol ends Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - President Yoon Suk-yeol of the Republic of Korea and his entourage left Hanoi on June 24, concluding their official three-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of State President Vo Van Thuong.

During his stay in Hanoi, President Yoon held talks with President Thuong, and met with other senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Vietnamese leaders voiced their support for the RoK’s increasing role in the region and the world at large, while President Yoon affirmed that the RoK attaches importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam, and it considers Vietnam an important partner in Asia.   

The two sides agreed that relations between the two countries have made remarkable progress over the past three decades as evidenced in establishing the comprehensive partnership in 2001, strategic partnership in 2009 and comprehensive strategic partnership in 2022.

They agreed to promote political, defense and security cooperation with a higher level of trust, alongside maintaining regular high-level visit exchanges and coordinating closely at regional and international forums.

They vowed to effectively implement the Vietnam – Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) and facilitate business operations, aiming to soon raise their two-way trade turnover to US$100 billion in 2023 and look towards the US$150 billion target by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen close cooperation, support each other at international forums, and jointly respond to global challenges and non-traditional security issues.

Relevant ministries and agencies of the two countries exchanged 17 document sof cooperation in various areas during the visit.

He also attended the Vietnam – RoK business forum, met with RoK businesses investing in Vietnam, and representatives of the Korean expatriates in Vietnam, and talked to students.

President Yoon’s visit is expected to give fresh impetus to cooperation between the two countries in all key fields.
