President of Sierra Leone begins week-long visit to Vietnam

VOV.VN - President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio and his spouse arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on March 14 afternoon, beginning a week-long official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The visiting President was accompanied by a number of ministers in charge of foreign affairs, communications, finance, agriculture, commerce and industry, education, and investment. 

The two Presidents are scheduled to hold talks and witness the signing of a number of cooperation agreements on March 15. 

President Julius Maada Bio will have meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

He is set to pay tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh, lay wreaths at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs, visit the Temple of Literature and the FPT University, and attend a business forum in Hanoi. He will also take part in some other activities in Can Tho city and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam and Sierra Leone, a African country, set up their diplomatic relations on June 24, 1982. The two countries have engaged in economic cooperation and worked together in some other fields. In 2020, two-way trade reached US$49.26 million, up more than 200% from the US$17 million recorded in 2018, with Vietnam’s overwhelming exports of US$47 million.

Sierra Leone is operating one project in marketing and human resources management in Vietnam with investment of US$33,185. Vietnam has yet to run any project in Sierra Leone.
