President Luong Cuong to make a state visit to Laos this week
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong will pay a state visit to Laos on April 24-25 at the invitation of Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Laos People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic ties in 1962, and the two countries have since maintained the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation through reciprocal visit exchanges, helping to increase their political trust and outline future cooperation orientations.
President Luong Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam’s this consistent policy during his meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the sidelines of the fourth Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G) summit in Hanoi last week.
Economic cooperation is a key pillar in bilateral relations, with two-way trade turnover last year surpassing the US$2.2 billion mark, up 33.9% compared to the previous year.
Vietnam is the third largest foreign investor in Laos, with 241 valid projects totaling approximately US$5.5 billion.
The two countries also maintain fruitful cooperation in other fields, such as defence and security, culture, education and training. Both sides are working closely together to implement Vietnam’s official development assistance projects for Laos.
Cooperation between localities of the two countries, especially those sharing a common border, is becoming increasingly comprehensive.
Vietnam and Laos continue to strengthen mutual support at regional and international forums and organisations, especially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the United Nations, and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.
Vietnam supported and assisted Laos in successfully assuming the roles of ASEAN Chair and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024. Laos was among the first countries to support Vietnam’s candidacy for re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026–2028 term.
