President Luong Cuong leaves Hanoi for working trip to Egypt and Angola
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, led by President Luong Cuong and his spouse, left Hanoi on August 3, for State visits to Egypt and Angola at the invitations of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and his spouse, and Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço and his spouse.

Accompanying President Luong Cuong and his spouse are Politburo members and senior leaders from key Vietnamese ministries and agencies, along with Vietnam’s Ambassadors to Egypt and Angola.
This marks the first State visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Egypt in seven years and to Angola in 17 years. The trip holds special significance as it aims to advance bilateral relations, strengthen political trust, and deepen the traditional friendship. It is expected to create new momentum and open up a fresh phase of cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and trade between Vietnam and Egypt, Angola, and the broader African region.
Egypt and Angola both play important roles and hold strategic positions as two of Africa’s leading economies. Egypt has a vital geostrategic location and is one of the most influential countries in the Middle East, Africa, and the Arab world. It is also home to the headquarters of the Arab League. Meanwhile, Angola currently serves as the Chair of the African Union, which consists of 54 member states, and has a significant voice at the United Nations and various multilateral forums.
President Luong Cuong’s trip not only reaffirms the loyal and time-honoured relationships forged during the struggles for national liberation, but also provides an opportunity for Vietnam and both Egypt and Angola to discuss directions and measures to elevate their ties to a new, more substantive, effective, and sustainable level, matching the development and integration needs of each country in the current global context.
The tour also reflects Vietnam’s growing role and readiness to contribute more proactively to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and around the world. As Vietnam continues to promote and elevate its multilateral diplomacy, the trip is expected to help mobilise support not only from Egypt and Angola, but also from African friends for Vietnam’s roles at the United Nations and other multilateral forums. It will also foster enhanced cooperation between ASEAN and both the Arab League and the African Union.
