President Luong Cuong ends APEC Summit activities, leaves Lima for Hanoi

VOV.VN - Vietnamese President Luong Cuong left Lima, Peru, on November 16 (local time), successfully wrapping up his participation in the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, and his working visit to Peru.

Cuong and his entourage were seen off at Jorge Chavez Airport by Peruvian Minister of Transport and Communications Raul Perez Reyes, along with several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and staff from the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil-Peru.

During the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, Cuong attended and delivered speeches at the plenary session of the summit, the APEC CEO Summit, and the APEC Leaders’ Informal Dialogue with Guests. He also engaged in the working lunch between APEC leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council.

At these events, the President made several strategic and groundbreaking proposals aimed at further enhancing APEC’s role and position in international economic cooperation and addressing challenges faced by the international community in general and the Asia-Pacific region in particular.

Cuong conveyed a message about the aspirations of the Vietnamese nation in the new era, outlining major directions for Vietnam’s development, foreign policy, and international integration, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region. His speeches received positive responses and high appreciation from APEC leaders and the business community.

In addition, he held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from other APEC member economies, including Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, President Yoon Suk-yeol of the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon of New Zealand, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba of Japan.

He also met on the sidelines with Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping of China, President Joe Biden of the United States, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, and Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk of Russia.

These meetings contributed to enhancing and deepening Vietnam’s relationships with the APEC member economies.

Earlier, during his official visit to Peru, President Luong Cuong held talks with President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, met with Council of Ministers President Gustavo Adriazén, President of Congress Eduardo Salhuana, and Chief Justice Javier Arévalo Vela.

In their meetings, the Peruvian leaders affirmed the importance of developing friendly and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. They praised Vietnam’s achievements over nearly 40 years of reform, and expressed a desire to strengthen the sharing of good governance experiences and socio-economic development policies. They also expressed confidence that Cuong’s visit would create significant momentum for advancing bilateral relations into a new, more robust phase.

During the visit, Cuong was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru, the highest honour from the Peruvian state, by President Dina Boluarte. The Mayor of Lima, Rafael Lopez, presented him with the symbolic key to the city and recognized him as an honorary guest of Lima, reflecting the importance of the visit and the respect and affection that the Peruvian state and people hold for him and the Vietnamese people.

Cuong’s participation in the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and the official visit to Peru represent an important step in implementing Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of diversification and multilateralization, positioning Vietnam as a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community. This creates new momentum for the dynamic and effective development of multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Peru, while affirming Vietnam’s enhanced role and status in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
