President Luong Cuong arrives in New York for UNGA-80
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by President Luong Cuong arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, USA, on the evening of September 21 (local time) to attend the High-level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA-80).

The President, his spouse and the entourage were welcomed at the airport by Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and staff members from the Vietnamese Embassy and Mission.
This marks President Cuong’s first multilateral foreign mission at the world’s most prominent global forum, at a time when the United Nations is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The trip also comes as Vietnam and the United States mark two years of upgrading their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and 30 years of the normalisation of diplomatic relations.
Over nearly five decades, Vietnam–UN relations have continued to grow, becoming deeper and more substantial. The UN has stood by Vietnam through its post-war reconstruction, its efforts to break out of economic isolation, and its gradual integration into the international community.
This visit continues to implement Vietnam’s foreign policy direction of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and proactive, comprehensive, and effective international integration, as set out by the 13th National Party Congress and major directives of the Party and State.
President Cuong’s participation in the UNGA-80 High-Level General Debate further underscores Vietnam’s steadfast contributions to the world’s largest multilateral organisation and highlights the country’s proactive and responsible approach in addressing global and regional challenges.
The President is expected to attend a meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the UN, and deliver important speeches at the General Debate and at the Global Climate Action Summit, to reaffirm Vietnam’s role as a responsible member of the international community, and emphasise its active and substantive contributions to key UN priorities
During his working trip, the President will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of international organisations and other countries attending the UN High-Level Week; meet with US leaders, prominent businesses, financial institutions, long-standing partners, and leading scholars; and attend a gathering with Vietnamese and American veterans.
He will also meet with staff from Vietnamese representative offices and members of the Vietnamese community in the US. In addition, he will preside over a ceremony celebrating Vietnam’s 80th National Day in New York.
