Oregon seeks to further enhance cooperation with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Oregon state legislators expressed desire to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam during their meeting with visiting Vietnamese President Luong Cuong in Seattle, USA, on September 21 (local time).

The Oregon legislators led by Representative Daniel Loc Nguyen, chairman of the House Committee on Economic Development, lauded Vietnam’s dynamic economic development and deep international integration, affirming their desire to increase cooperation in Oregon’s areas of strength such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor production, electronics and microchips, clean energy, green transition, high-tech agriculture, education and training, and scientific research.
They committed to supporting the Vietnamese community in Oregon, protecting their legitimate interests, and enhancing their role as a bridge of friendship between the two countries. They also expressed interest in organising trade promotion programmes, academic exchanges, people-to-people diplomacy, and welcoming Vietnamese delegations to Oregon in the near future.
For his part, President Cuong, who is paying a working trip to the United States for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA-80), described Oregon as a “Silicon Forest” of the United States, a leading centre for high technology and renewable energy. He stressed that Vietnam welcomes and is ready to create favourable conditions for Oregon’s businesses, universities, and research institutions to expand cooperation, investment, and development in Vietnam.
The President highlighted that 2025 marks an important milestone in Vietnam – US relations as both country celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations and 2 years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He called on Oregon and its legislators to continue supporting US recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status and removal of Vietnam from the list of countries restricted from accessing high technologies.
The President also praised the Vietnamese community in Oregon for their successful integration into local society while serving as an effective bridge of friendship between the two countries. He urged the legislators to continue encouraging the community to uphold solidarity, maintain ties with their homeland, and contribute actively to Vietnam’s development and bilateral relations.
Representative Daniel affirmed that, as an American of Vietnamese origin, he would make every effort to connect the Vietnamese community in the United States, strengthen their bonds with their homeland, and contribute to the bright future of Vietnam–US relations, while fostering pride and heritage for future generations.
