PM Pham Minh Chinh meets South African Deputy President

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile in Johannesburg on November 21, as part of his working trip to South Africa for the G20 Summit.

During the meeting, Deputy President Mashatile expressed his delight at the strong development of Vietnam–South Africa relations in recent years and warmly welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to South Africa. He also thanked Vietnam for its support and highlighted the Prime Minister’s participation in the first-ever G20 Summit held in Africa.

Prime Minister Chinh emphasised that his visit follows the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to Vietnam in October 2025 and expressed the Vietnamese people’s deep respect for South Africa, its citizens, late President Nelson Mandela, and their resilient struggle against apartheid.

The two leaders discussed trade and investment cooperation, emphasising the role of businesses in driving bilateral relations.

Deputy President Mashatile noted the potential for cooperation in infrastructure, seaports, low-carbon minerals, and expressed a desire to further promote Vietnam–South Africa trade.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed his host’s proposal, stating that commitments should be translated into concrete programmes and contracts, with governments playing a facilitating role and businesses leading the way.

He proposed cooperation to build a self-reliant economy, combining the natural resources and expertise of both countries to advance joint projects and bring tangible benefits to their citizens.

Prime Minister Chinh also affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to contributing to the success of this year’s G20 Summit in South Africa, enhancing the host nation’s international role and standing.
