PM meets Vietnamese expats in Brazil and other South American nations

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with representatives of Vietnamese expatriates in Brazil and other South American nations nearby in Sao Paolo on September 23 (local time)

He briefed the expatriates on Vietnam’s recent development acheivements and affirmed that the Party and State encourage and create conditions for Vietnamese nationals to do business and live stably in countries around the world.

The Party and State always consider the Vietnamese community abroad, including those in Brazil and other South American countries, an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc of Vietnam, he reiterated.

The PM said he was happy to hear that Vietnamese nationals in Brazil and other South American countries all have a stable, prosperous and happy life, and that they support each other in all circumstances and are given favourable conditions and full legal guarantees by local governments.

He reviewed major developments in Vietnam – Brazil cooperative relations and said the two countries have yet to fully tap into their potential that needs greater contributions by Vietnamese nationals in Brazil and other South American countries.

He encouraged Vietnamese nationals there to uphold the tradition of solidarity, mutual support and assistance, abide by local laws, and integrate into local community well, while actively making a practical contribution back to the fatherland’s construction and development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is in Brazil for an official visit from September 23-25 at the invitation of President Lula da Silva.

PM Pham Minh Chinh is scheduled to hold talks with President Lula da Silva, co-chair a joint press briefing after talks, and witness the signing of a number of cooperation documents between Vietnam and Brazil.

He will meet leaders of the National Congress of Brazil, the Brazil Parliamentary Friendship Group, and some Brazilian political parties and friendship organizations.

He will also attended a Vietnam - Brazil business forum and receive leaders of some leading Brazilian businesses.

Vietnam and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1989. The two countries lifted their ties to a comprehensive partnership in May 2007 during a Brazil visit by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.

Brazil is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Latin America and the second largest in the Americas after the United States. Law year saw two-way trade turnover record a year-on-year rise of 6.6% to US$6.78 billion.
