PM lauds GGGI commitment to net-zero target in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh lauded the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)’s assistance and commitment to Vietnam’s green growth and net-zero targets during his reception in Hanoi on April 17 for GGGI Director-General Sang-Hyup Kim.

Chinh praised GGGI’s active support in Vietnam’s green transition, particularly its technical assistance between 2017 and 2024 across multiple sectors including renewable energy, climate-resilient agriculture, waste management, green industry, and carbon markets. Indeed, GGGI has worked closely with 15 central and local government agencies to develop and implement key strategies aligned with Vietnam’s green growth goals.

The PM spoke highly of GGGI’s decade-long presence in Vietnam, noting its provision of US$300 million in support and its commitment to mobilizing US$1 billion more in the coming period. He emphasised that a green economy requires green enterprises, and a green society depends on environmentally conscious citizens, in which science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation play a crucial role.

For his part, Kim, who attended the fourth Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit (P4G), reiterated the institute’s mission to foster collaboration among stakeholders and with multilateral development banks, aiming to help countries, including Vietnam, access green financing through mechanisms such as green bonds.

He underlined Vietnam’s important role as a strong and proactive member of GGGI and expressed confidence in the country’s capacity to reach its green growth and digital transformation objectives.

Kim also shared plans to attend the upcoming Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, where GGGI will work to connect credit institutions to unlock future financing solutions. He hoped for an early signing of a new cooperation framework with Vietnam and requested enhanced support for the operation of the GGGI Office in the country.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening green growth cooperation, with Vietnam positioning itself as a key partner in the region’s sustainable development journey.
