Vietnam affirms global green leadership as PM opens P4G Summit in Hanoi
VOV.VN - As host of the world’s first multilateral summit on green growth and climate, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscores Vietnam’s leadership and commitment to inclusive, action-oriented green development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 16 chaired the opening ceremony of the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Hanoi, held under the theme “Sustainable and people-centred green transition”
Party General Secretary To Lam delivered a policy message at the event.
Those in attendance were senior Vietnamese officials including Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Party Central Office; Tran Luu Quang, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Policy and Strategy; and Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.
Distinguished international guests included Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, ministers from P4G member countries, heads of international organizations, scholars, experts, and business leaders from around the world.
This is the first time Vietnam has hosted a major multilateral summit on green growth and sustainable development. The two-day event (April 16–17) brings together more than 1,000 delegates from over 40 countries and international organizations.
Key activities include a green growth exhibition, plenary sessions, a high-level dialogue, business roundtables, and a closing session.
The summit promotes green transition and sustainable development, aiming to build a peaceful, inclusive, and resilient world and a greener future for all.
Hosting the P4G Summit affirms Vietnam’s commitment to global efforts on sustainability and climate action. It also indicates the country’s ambition to reform its growth model, mobilize global resources for green and digital transformation, and strengthen its international role in multilateral forums.

In his opening speech, PM Chinh welcomed the delegates and highlighted the global significance of the P4G platform since its inception in Copenhagen in 2018. He emphasized that green transition is not only a pressing need but also a strategic priority for nations worldwide, particularly in the face of climate change, environmental degradation, and other global challenges.
This year’s theme, he said, shows a shared aspiration for a cleaner and more livable planet. People must remain the center, driver, beneficiary, and core resource for sustainable development.
The Vietnamese Government leader stressed that challenges also present opportunities. While the green transition journey is difficult and complex, valuable lessons have emerged to guide a more inclusive and resilient path forward.
He called for a people-centered and global approach that leaves no one behind, especially vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. “A green economy needs green businesses. A green society needs green citizens. A green world needs green nations,” he said, while underscoring the importance of shared responsibility, joint actions, and mutual benefit.
Science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation must serve as key drivers of this transition, alongside the power of markets and public awareness. The process must be fair, inclusive, and accountable.
He concluded by saying the green transition requires consistent goals but flexible strategies tailored to each country’s circumstances. “The success of one nation is a shared success for all,” he said.
For Vietnam, green transition and digital transformation are strategic breakthroughs that will pave the way for rapid and sustainable development. These are crucial to the country’s goal of becoming a modern industrialized nation with upper-middle income by 2030 and high income by 2045, as well as fulfilling its COP26 commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Earlier the same day, prior to the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted an official welcome and group photo session with heads of delegations attending the summit. He then joined other delegates at the opening ceremony and visited the Green Growth Exhibition held on the sidelines of the event.
