PM encourages Vietnam – Japan local cooperation
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh encouraged local cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, calling on localities and businesses from both countries to actively implement concrete projects, expand investment, and strengthen cultural exchanges, during his reception for Yamamoto Ichita, Governor of Gunma Prefecture.
Receiving the Governor on the sidelines of the first Vietnam–Japan Local Cooperation Forum in Quang Ninh province on November 25, PM Chinh expressed his pleasure at meeting the Governor again after last month’s visit to Vietnam, appreciating Gunma’s special interest and support for Vietnam.
He highlighted Quang Ninh’s successful collaboration with Japan, from landmark ODA projects such as Bai Chay Bridge to people-to-people exchanges, education, and tourism. He said he believes that the forum will generate new momentum for the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.
The PM called on Japanese localities and businesses, especially from Gunma, to proactively propose specific cooperation initiatives, expand investment in Vietnam linked with technology transfer and high-quality human resource training. He stressed the importance of cooperation in priority areas for Vietnam, such as innovation, science and technology, digital transformation, green transformation, and semiconductors, while strengthening cultural and tourism exchanges and supporting the Vietnamese community in Japan.
Governor Yamamoto Ichita shared his sympathy regarding the recent natural disasters in Vietnam, and expressed his desire for continued Vietnamese support to expand Gunma businesses’ operations in Vietnam. He appreciated the organisation of the forum and affirmed that Gunma Prefecture would actively seek opportunities to cooperate with Vietnamese localities.

This important event aims to concretise the agreement between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and former Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, while promoting direct cooperation between localities of the two countries.
